RE: airflow over motor

The Chevy chassis manual for the P30 reccommends this very thing. The left side has a shield to deflect the incoming air over the manifold and away from the brake master cylinder. The manufacturer is suppose to do the right side but they did not always do it. I did as the manual said and also blocked off the area in front of and below the radiator. It works great. I would go for it and you won't be sorry. Good luck

RE: I don't "get' Hyder.....

We were there in the fall of 06. Saw several black bear and cubs. From the viewing station we saw a mother grizely and three cubs. They ate a bunch of grass and then mom tried to teach the cubs how to catch Salmon in the shallow creek. they were there for 2-3 hours. the worst thing about Hyder was the pot holes in the roads.

RE: two questions

One of the benifts of running the generator is that you can plug in a crock pot and cook dinner while you are driving. It costs almost nothing. Using levelers to support a MH without a safety devise is not a good idea especially if you are under it.

RE: Chev 454 Carb Misfiring -- Help -- Near Wits End

High heat in the dog house is a real problem. In the Chevy P30 chassis manual it recommends that the area on the right side of the engine be closed in the way the left side is. This will direct air over the engine and exhaust and keep things cooler. Different MH treat this area in different ways. Some will run hot and cause problems like you have. Good luck

RE: workhorse fan clutch cross reference

There have been many posts on this subject. try a search on fan clutch or specific the engine and fan clutch. The concenus was that after market clutches do not work. Three years ago I bought a GM clutch for my 454 for $178.00. Pricey but I had it exposed and decided it was to much trouble to pull out if the old one went bad. Good luck

RE: Onan problems -- revisited

Due to the location of the pickup tube my generator runs out of fuel at 1/2 tank. You might have the same problem.

RE: Gas millage for a GM 454 engine ( Miles per Gallon)

I have an 84 30 ft class A. Got 6 mpg when I bought it. Installed a Jacobs ignition system and went to 7.5 mpg. This when gas was $1.25 to $1.50 a gallon. Paid for itself fast and got much better power. I do not think it would make as much of a difference with injected engines but it could not hurt. Have 25k on it without a problem.

RE: Onan oil viscosity help

I have a 6.5 Onan with almost 1100 hours on it. I was using 10-40 and thought I would try straight 30 weight. Smoked and used oil. I went to 10-30 Penzoil extra life and it quit smoking and does not use oil. 200 hours on it and no problems since I switched over. I use a Fram 3600 filter for the last 500 hours. Good luck.

RE: Easy Way to Improve Mileage

I have an older P30w/454 and carb. I was getting 6 mpg 7 years ago when I installed a Jacobs Ignition system. Went to 7.5 mpg. 3 years ago I pulled the engine, overhauled it and installed a low speed hi torque cam. The unit runs best at 62 mph. I tried 55 but it did not have the power in the hills. I also installed a Gear Vendors OD unit and that dropped the rpm from 2900 to 2300 rpm at 60 mph. Gas mileage went to 8.5 over a 12k trip towing a L300 saturn.

RE: leaking air conditioner

I had a problem of leaking when it rained hard. I tightened the bots that hold the coleman cooler to the roof. should be three or four bolts under the cover inside. You have to pull the knobs off to get the cover off. Go to coleman.com and down load the instructions for the cooler. If it is not a coleman than trythe name of your unit. good luck

RE: It Turns over n over, but wont start

by 78 Chrysler had converted all ther ignitions to pointless. Pull the center coil wire off and hold it close to the engine and turn it over. This will check the ignition system. If you see spark then you have a fuel problem. You have replaced the cap and wires so just to be sure pull a spark plug wire, put a screwdriver in the boot and hold it close to the engine and turn it over. If you see spark it is definetly a fuel problem. If not it could be a bad rotor under the distributor cap. Take off the air cleaner and look down the carb while pumping the foot feed. You should see gas squirt out. You will have to hold the choke open. It is dangerous to try to start the engine with the air cleaner off because it might back fire. I don't know about your MH as to where the fuel filters are located but that could be a problem.

RE: hot water drain plug???? Now WHAT (((UPDATE))))

I replaced mine with a brass plug and put 3-4 wraps of teflon tape on it. the tape insulates the plug and stops any galvanic action. When I put in the Hot Rod elect heater I did the same thing and it has worked for 5 years without a problem. Good luck DO NOT over tighten the plug. If it leaks just tighten it a little more.

RE: painting faded decals

Whats a good way to remove decals? The fiberglass on my MH has a pebbled finish. I think this has been covered before so I guess I will do a search.

RE: 1st timers to Alaska

In the very remote chance that you meet dangerous wildlife please do not worry about your dog getting hurt. The dog can surely run faster than you can so he will be safe but you might not be. LOL. Actually the wildlife is not much of a problem other than you might not see some if your dog barks and scares it away. We spent 5 months in Canada and Alaska in 06 and never got close to bears or moose. 50 ft as close as we got to a cow moose near North Pole Alaska. Well 20 ft if you consider the one I almost hit by Fox Alaska. Good Luck

RE: Class "A"'s not selling too well???

you are correct. I noticed in the paper this morning that there are a lot more RV's for sale than usual. I did not see any dropping in the asking price. someone wanted 12k for a 1986 32 ft class a. I suspect that prices will come down quite a bit.

RE: oem part # for bge onan oil filter

Try NAPA. I get mine from Walmart. I have a 6.5 Onan and the fram book calls for a 3614 but the 3600 is longer and easier to change. I have 500 hours on the engine using this filter and have had no problems. The gen has a little over 1000 hours now. I use Pennzoil extended life oil for high mileage engines. 10-30 It uses about a cup between oil changes. Good luck.

RE: Why would Generator shut off after AC is turn on?

What else is using elect. from the generator at the same time. Use a voltmeter and see if the problem is a slowing down of the generator when any load is put on it. A long time ago someone said they had a problem like yours and it was fuel starvation. The filter was pluged. He had a 5 kva Onan I think with one AC. It ran ok without a load but stopped when a heavy load was put on it. Good luck

RE: 454 max RPM Redline number?

I removed a 327 and installed a 427 Chevy truck engine in a Church bus several years ago. It came with a carb and distributor that limited the revs to 3800 max. At 3800 rpm the distributor opened a valve and dropped the vacuum to the secondaries which limited the amount of air and gas going into the engine. 4000 rpm is high enough to get into the power range of the engine without breaking something. good luck
